Once the team has a sample, they run tests on it using cutting-edge equipment and specific chemicals in their mobile lab. To begin, your sample is combined with reagents that can detect and isolate RNA from any viruses in the area.
Your technician will then take this RNA and place it in a machine where it will be converted into DNA using chemicals known as primers and probes. Swab DNA will connect with specific probes and light up if they find a match with SARS-CoV-2. The computer will pick up on this brightness and interpret it as a successful outcome. If you get a positive test for SARS-CoV-2, it suggests you have an active infection.
